Z. Christopher Mercer is the founder and chief executive officer of Mercer Capital.
Chris began his valuation career in the late 1970s. He has prepared, overseen, or contributed to more than a thousand valuations for purposes related to M&A, litigation, and tax, among others.
In addition, he has served on the boards of directors of several private companies and one public company.
Chris has extensive experience in litigation engagements including statutory fair value cases and business damages and lost profits. He is also an expert in buy-sell agreement disputes.
Designations held include Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) from the American Society of Appraisers, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) from the CFA Institute, and Accredited in Business Appraisal Review (ABAR) from the Institute of Business Appraisers.
In 2011, Chris was appointed to the International Valuation Professional Board of the International Valuation Standards Committee (IVSC). The role of the International Valuation Professional Board is to promote the development of the valuation profession globally. Prior to this appointment, Chris served as the Chairman of the Standards Committee of the American Society of Appraisers.
Chris is a prolific author on valuation-related topics and a frequent speaker on business valuation issues for national professional associations and other business and professional groups.
Nicholas J. Heinz joined Mercer Capital in 2000 and serves as a senior vice president. Nick also leads Mercer Capital’s Valuation Services Group.
Nick has extensive experience in providing valuation and corporate advisory services for purposes including mergers and acquisitions, fairness opinions, solvency opinions, employee stock ownership plans, buy-sell agreements, estate and gift tax planning and compliance matters, and corporate planning and reorganizations.
Over his career, Nick has provided transaction-related consulting services to numerous clients on both the sell-side and buy-side of transactions. Such consulting has included the delivery of transaction opinions, such as fairness opinions and solvency opinions, and strategic advisory related to transaction pricing and execution.
Nick holds the Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) designation from the American Society of Appraisers.
Nick is an active member of several professional organizations including the ESOP Association, the National Center for Employee Ownership, and the American Society of Appraisers. He serves as an officer in the New South Chapter of the ESOP Association.
Nick has broad industry experience and has developed specific industry expertise in multiple industries through dozens of engagements over his tenure at Mercer Capital.
Timothy R. Lee serves as the Managing Director of Corporate Valuation and is a member of the firm’s board of directors.
Tim provides valuation and corporate advisory services for purposes including mergers and acquisitions, employee stock ownership plans, profit sharing plans, estate and gift tax planning and compliance matters, limited and general partnerships, corporate planning and reorganizations. In addition, Tim provides litigation support in cases involving dissenting shareholder rights, marital dissolution, tax matters, and other shareholder conflicts.
Noteworthy industry experience includes beverage distribution, construction, distribution, financial Institutions, food services, general & specialty contracting, manufacturing, retail, technology, and transportation.
He also has extensive experience in working with both sellers and buyers in merger and acquisition advisory engagements. Tim assists clients through all phases of the sales process, from conducting strategic alternatives analysis to determine if selling is indeed the best option, to structuring, negotiating, and closing transactions.
Tim holds the Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) designation from the American Society of Appraisers.
He is a frequent speaker to estate planning and business associations on topics related to corporate valuation and succession planning.
In 2011, Tim co-authored the book, A REVIEWER’S HANDBOOK TO BUSINESS VALUATION: Practical Guidance to the Use and Abuse of a Business Appraisal, with L. Paul Hood, Jr., JD, LLM (John Wiley & Sons, Inc.).
Matthew R. Crow is the President of Mercer Capital and a member of the board of directors.
Matt is also a senior member of Mercer Capital’s Financial Reporting Valuation Group, which provides opinions and related consulting for compliance with ASC 718, ASC 805, ASC 350, ASC 360, and ASC 820, among others. In addition, Matt provides corporate valuation services related to corporate planning and reorganization, transactions, employee stock ownership plans, and tax issues.
Matt is active in valuation related to asset management firms and telecommunications enterprises and has broad industry experience in agriculture, manufacturing, distribution, and technology companies.
Designations held include Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) from the American Society of Appraisers and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) from the CFA Institute.
In addition, Matt serves as a course developer for the American Society of Appraisers BV302 course on Advanced Topics in the Valuation of Intangible Assets.
He also actively participates in the Appraisal Issues Task Force, a group that interacts with the SEC to address new and developing fair value issues.
